Taiwan’s Culture
Our global is smaller than before, are you agree that? Not the Earth becomes small because traffic is more convenient than before. We can easily travel from country to country. Therefore we have more opportunity to do business with different countries. Before doing business in other country, we have to realize their culture. Understanding their culture can help businessman do better on business. For instance, we have to understand other’s meanings. Second, Knowing their customs and following their rules, you will seldom do impolite things. And try to learn the local manners and adapt to their country. If we want to do international business we should know other country’s cultural.
First knowing the local language will help businesspeople understand local culture. In Taiwan we communicate something indirectly, because we are conservative. Sometimes we use implied words, therefore people have to guess or infer the real meanings. For example, someone says “no” but the true meaning is ”yes.” We have opposite meaning from something we say. Therefore knowing the local language is important in Taiwan.
And then. Customs are common social practices that help businesspeople to comprehend the local business customs. In our country we are used to discussing business in restaurants. That is different with other countries. In our custom, businessmen like drinking when they discuss business. In addition businessman will invite someone to eat dinner at his home or drink tea in the afternoon. If businessmen understand the customs in Taiwan, they do not feel strange discuss business in a restaurant. So knowing Taiwan’s customs, should help businessmen work better on business.
Besides language and customs, to comprehend manners which are used in Taiwan. Businessmen can have a good fit society believes are polite. In Taiwan, we have to arrive on time or five minutes before, if we have an appointment. Then we should use formal ways like wear a suit. Speak after we think twice …and etc. And then we seldom use informal manners in business. Therefore manners are important and realizing local manners can help businessman do politely.
Before you do business with other culture, to learn other culture will help you have a good impression from your customer. In addition you know the culture’s manners and customs you will seldom take mistakes. Hence knowing other country’s culture is important thing before you do business in other country.
